The report was for formalising an overall assessment programme that will extend the investigation beyond exploration and geological assessment to include formal assessment of mining feasibility, environment constraints, and coal properties and use. By doing this a comprehensive classification of coal resources will be possible. The Maramarua Coalfield, where exploration and geological assessment has finished, has been chosen as a suitable coalfield for a pilot study to investigate the mining and environment aspects.
