Prediction of ash content of Waikato coal from geophysical logs. Progress reports February 1980 and November 1980

Since the introduction of geophysical logging techniques to the Waikato in October 1977, several attempts have been made to calibrate B.P.B`s Long Spaced Density (L.S.D.) log for ash percentage, often without full understanding of the difficulties involved. The basic need is to statistically correlate L.S.D. log responses with coal ash contents by core analysis. While simple in concept, there are some inherent difficulties.
