This report summarises the coal characteristics and potential uses of coal from the Maramarua Coalfield. Information is mainly drawn from analytical reports, scientific papers on coal properties, and utilisation literature presented by coal users. The in seam and run-of-mine/delivered coal characteristics are discussed, the coalfield is compared with other fields in the Waikato region, and the coal utilisation methods of liquefaction, gasification, steelmaking and thermal utilisation are proposed.
