The geological maps and this accompanying report are an upgrading, by additional field mapping, of the geological knowledge of Waitewhena Coalfield (Fig.1.) with emphasis on the coal measures. The intent of the exercise was not to accumulate sufficient data to accurately assess coal reserves and mining propositions, but to produce a geological map that could be used as a basis for such detailed prospecting work.
