Coal Prospecting Licence numbers 35-267 and 35-268 were granted to Mt Linton Partnership over the eastern end of Mt Linton Station for a three year perioed. The CPL area is in the Ohai Coalfield adjacent to operating underground and opencast coal mines owned by NZSTM. The report summerises an initial phase of field exploration conducted during April 1985, and evaluates the results to date with the objective of identifying prospective targets for subsequent follow-up investigation. The overall objective of the programme is to delineate a minimum two million tonnes of coal of marketable quality and economically accessable either by opencast mining methods or by shallow subserface decline.
