Report looks at coal mining history, geology, quality , quantity and proximate analysis of coal lignites for the Pomaka Coalfield. The coal is brown lignite similar in appearance to that of adjacent Maitland and Kaitangata (Benhar) Coalfields. The widespread distribution of outcrops in the Pomahaka coalfield apart from sector A largely precludes the estimation of lignite reserves for most of the area. The weighted average thickness of the eight coal outcrops in the field is 4m. Taking into account lignite consumed by underground fires and lensiod coal bodies found in the coal measures it is speculated that there is 67 x 10,000,000 tons coal in ground at present.
