Geological investigation of the Brighton mine, Buller county

Brighton Mine commenced operation in 1930 and has been waorked for a toal of 40 years to produced approximately 71,000 tons of coal. The coal seam occurs within the lower Teritary, Brunner Coal Measures. Accessible coal is limited to the north and south by faulting and to the west by outcrop. The greatest thickness occurs in the mine area. Coal reserves are estimated as 51,000 tons of measures coal and 27,000 tonnes of indicated coal , giving a total of 78,000 tonnes. An additional 390,000 tonnes of coal is inferred.
