The report examined Fletcher Creek and the adjoining creeks on the west side of the Inangahua Valley and nine miles north of the town of Reefton. Several new coal outcrops were discovered. The seams occur in Brunner beds near the base of the marine sequence and near the top of the marine sequence in beds of about the same age as the Longford coal measures in the Murchison area. Although the extent of each seam is unknown the total tonnage is considerable, at least 2,000,000 tons being above steam level.
