Coal Measures to the East of Ongarue

Coal has been discovered to the east of Ongarue in measures which are comparable to those at Mangapehi, and which are probably the basal beds of the Tertiary sequence of the Tongaporutu - Ohura Sub-division. The coal is too thin to be of economic value, however, and may well be cut out elsewhere by unconformity or overlap. No further work is recommended for the present.
