Looking at the geology of coal measures and younger Tertiary rocks south of Pukermiro and to the west of Hakarimata Range. This area in which the Tertiary rocks have been preserved from erosion by down-faulting in a grapen like depression between the Karaka fault on the west and the Mangakptu fault on the east, is the south end of the Waikato coalfields.
