Report on the Kiripaka coalfield

Analyses of Best and Inferior Coal in the Kiripaka Coalfield. The summary found that the coal lay in basins, on a line commencing near Whareora somewhat east of Whangarei, and running in a northerly directiob through Kamo, Hikurangi, to the Bay of Islands. The basins were separated form one another by hills, sometimes volcanic in nature. To the west the coal measures were overlain by basalt, while to theeast they rested unconformally on Palaeozoic slate.
