Tuihu-1 was a vertical exploration well drilled in PEP 38718, onshore Taranaki Basin, New Zealand. The well was designed to target the Tariki Sandstone Member Sandstone and Tikorangi Limestone Formation in a four-way dip closed structure. Two Formation Micro Imager logs were run to evaluate the presence of natural fractures in the Tikorangi and Otaraoa Formations. Hydrocarbon gas shows and drilling mud losses were observed throughout the lower Tikorangi and Otaraoa Formations which suggested the presence of hydrocarbons, and possibly fracture porosity. Petrophysical interpretation indicates that primary inter-granular porosity is low and unlikely to explain drilling mud losses and hydrocarbon shows.
